India’s Work and Holiday Visa Portal Opening on 1st October 2024: Key Dates and Registration Details

As of 1st October 2024, Australia will launch a new Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa pre-application ballot process for high-demand countries. This change is expected to create a more transparent and equitable visa allocation for citizens of China, India, and Vietnam. If you're planning to apply for this visa, here's what you need to know about the new process.

What's Changing?

The new pre-application ballot process is designed to address the increasing demand for the Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa. With the number of applicants far exceeding the available visa spots each year, the ballot provides a fair, random, and automated system for selecting participants from these partner countries.

Each applicant will need to pay a AUD25 registration fee to participate. Registrations for the first ballots for China, India, and Vietnam open on 1st October 2024. The registration periods for each country are as follows:

  • China: 01/10/2024 - 08/11/2024
  • India: 01/10/2024 - 31/10/2024
  • Vietnam: 01/10/2024 - 08/10/2024

Eligible applicants must submit their registration via ImmiAccount and ensure all details are accurate to enter the ballot.

Eligibility Criteria

To register for the ballot, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be under 30 years of age.
  • Hold a valid passport and national identity card from China, India, or Vietnam.
  • Have a verified ImmiAccount and a valid email address.
  • Pay the registration fee of AUD25.

Important Dates

Once the registration period closes, the selection process will begin, with the first selections for India and China commencing on 14th October 2024. Selected applicants will be notified via email, but it's important to note that selection does not guarantee visa approval. Applicants must meet all other visa eligibility requirements when they apply.

What Happens If You Are Selected?

If selected, you will receive a Notification of Selection via email and will have 28 days to submit your visa application through ImmiAccount. It's important to prepare all necessary documents ahead of time to avoid delays in your application. Keep in mind that selection is entirely random, and the Department of Home Affairs will not respond to inquiries about selections or requests for reconsideration.

Next Steps for Unsuccessful Applicants

If you're not selected in the ballot, your registration will remain in the pool until 30th April 2025, after which it will expire. Unsuccessful applicants can try again in future program years if they continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Why This Matters

The new ballot process is intended to create a more equitable and transparent system for high-demand countries. It ensures that all applicants have a fair chance of being selected, regardless of when they submit their registration.
