Updates to Visa Conditions: 8107, 8607 and 8608

At SuccessVisa, we are committed to keeping you informed about the latest changes in Australian visa regulations. As of July 1, 2024, significant updates to visa conditions 8107, 8607, and 8608 will be implemented to support temporary migrants and enhance labor market mobility. These changes are part of the Australian Government's Migration Strategy, aimed at combating worker exploitation and boosting productivity.

The updated visa conditions apply to holders of the following visas:

  • Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)
  • Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482)
  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494)

Improved Flexibility for Temporary Migrants

The new regulations provide visa holders with extended time frames to find new employment, apply for different visas, or arrange their departure from Australia. Specifically, visa holders will now have:

  • Up to 180 days at a time, or
  • A maximum of 365 days in total across the entire visa grant period.

During these periods, visa holders can work for other employers, even in occupations not listed in their most recent sponsorship nomination, ensuring financial stability while they secure new sponsorship.

Important Obligations and Conditions

Visa holders must cease working for their current sponsor before starting with a new employer. They must continue to work in their nominated occupation and comply with any required licenses or registrations. Sponsors are required to inform the Department of Home Affairs within 28 days of any changes in employment status.
